What is Polynucleotides?

Polynucleotides are chains of purified DNA fragments, typically derived from fish. When injected into the skin, they are designed to act as a regenerative signal — supporting the activity of the cells that maintain the skin's structure and helping to improve hydration and resilience.

Rather than filling or lifting, polynucleotides focus on the health of the tissue itself. This is why they are frequently considered for thin, delicate areas where other injectables can be less suitable, such as beneath the eyes.

They are usually given as a short course of treatments spaced a few weeks apart, with any changes developing gradually as the skin responds.

Who it's for

Polynucleotides may suit adults concerned about crepey or thin under-eye skin, fine lines, dullness, or skin that has lost some of its bounce. They can also be considered for the neck and other areas of the face, and sometimes as part of a wider skin plan.

Because most polynucleotide products are derived from fish, they are not suitable if you have a fish or seafood allergy. They are also not offered during pregnancy or breastfeeding, or where there is infection in the treatment area. Your medical history is reviewed in full before any treatment is agreed.

What to expect on the day

Your visit starts with a consultation to understand your concerns, assess your skin and confirm suitability, including any allergies. We will explain what a course may involve so you can decide in your own time.

Numbing cream may be applied before treatment. The product is placed with a fine needle or cannula, either as a series of small injections or along a few entry points, depending on the area. You may feel some stinging during the injections.

Allow around 45 minutes. Small raised bumps at the injection points are normal and generally settle within a day or so.

Downtime and aftercare

Mild swelling, redness and tenderness are common for a day or two, and the under-eye area in particular can bruise. Most people return to their usual routine soon afterwards, though some prefer a quiet day if treatment is around the eyes.

Avoid make-up on the area, alcohol, strenuous exercise and saunas for 24 hours, and avoid rubbing or massaging the treated skin. Continue with daily sun protection. Any improvement is gradual, and your practitioner will advise when to return for your next session.
