Every treatment begins with a medical consultation. Results vary between individuals.
What is Lip Filler?
Lip filler is an injectable treatment using hyaluronic acid, a sugar molecule found naturally in the body that attracts and holds water. Small amounts of gel are placed precisely in the lips to add volume, refine the shape of the border, improve symmetry or simply restore hydration that may lessen with age.
Because hyaluronic acid fillers are gradually broken down by the body, results are temporary and typically last several months, varying between individuals. Hyaluronic acid fillers can also be dissolved with a specific enzyme if needed, which is one reason we use them for lips.
We offer two broad approaches. A natural treatment uses a smaller amount to hydrate and subtly define, while a fuller treatment adds more noticeable volume. Which suits you is decided together at your consultation.
Who it's for
Lip filler may suit adults who would like slightly fuller lips, a more defined lip line, better balance between the upper and lower lip, or who have noticed lips becoming thinner over time. Some people simply want to soften fine vertical lines around the mouth.
It is not offered to anyone under 18, during pregnancy or breastfeeding, or where there is an active cold sore or infection. If you have a history of cold sores, please let us know in advance. We may also advise against treatment if the change you are hoping for would not look in proportion with your features.
What to expect on the day
Your appointment starts with a consultation. We discuss what you would like to change, look at your lips from different angles, review your medical history and talk through risks and alternatives. You will only be treated once you have had time to ask questions and give informed consent.
The lips are cleansed and a numbing cream may be applied; many fillers also contain a local anaesthetic. The filler is placed using a fine needle or cannula in small, considered amounts, with your practitioner checking shape and symmetry as they go. You can see a mirror before the appointment finishes.
Allow around 45 minutes in total. You will leave with written aftercare and details of how to contact us.
Downtime and aftercare
Swelling is normal and is often most noticeable the following morning; it usually settles within a few days. Some people also experience tenderness or small bruises. Lips can feel firm at first and soften as the filler settles over around two weeks, so the final shape is best judged after that time.
For 24 hours, avoid make-up on the lips, alcohol, strenuous exercise, saunas and hot drinks through a straw. Avoid dental treatment and facial massage for two weeks. A review appointment lets us check how your lips have settled. If you notice severe pain, colour change or anything unexpected, contact us straight away.

FAQs
Will my lips look natural?
Our aim is enhancement in proportion with your features. We start conservatively and you can always build gradually over time. Results vary between individuals.
How long does lip filler last?
Hyaluronic acid filler is gradually broken down by the body, so results usually last several months. How long varies with the product, your metabolism and lifestyle.
Does lip filler hurt?
Lips are sensitive, so we use numbing cream and most fillers contain local anaesthetic. Most people find it manageable, although everyone's experience is different.
How long will the swelling last?
Swelling is usually most noticeable on the first day or two and settles within a few days. The final result is best assessed after around two weeks.
Can lip filler be dissolved?
Hyaluronic acid filler can be dissolved with a specific enzyme if needed. This is discussed at your consultation.
Can I have lip filler before an event?
We recommend allowing at least two weeks before an important occasion, so any swelling or bruising has time to settle.
