What is Morpheus8?

Morpheus8 is a fractional radiofrequency microneedling treatment. A handpiece holding an array of very fine, insulated needles creates tiny channels in the skin, and radiofrequency energy is delivered through the needle tips into the deeper layers. The combination of controlled micro-injury and gentle heat is designed to trigger the skin's natural repair response.

As the skin repairs, it may produce new collagen and elastin — the proteins that give skin its firmness and spring. Because the depth of the needles can be adjusted, your practitioner can tailor treatment to thinner areas such as around the mouth, or to areas with more tissue such as the jawline and neck.

It is a device-based treatment rather than an injectable, so nothing is left in the skin. Changes tend to build gradually over the weeks that follow as remodelling takes place.

Who it's for

Morpheus8 may suit adults who are noticing early to moderate skin laxity, crepey texture, enlarged pores, acne scarring or uneven tone and who would prefer a non-surgical option. It is often considered for the lower face, jowls and neck, and can also be used on areas of the body.

It is not suitable for everyone. It is generally not offered during pregnancy, to people with certain implanted electronic devices, active skin infections or some medical conditions. Significant skin laxity may be better addressed with a different approach, which is why your consultation includes an honest discussion of whether Morpheus8 is the right fit.

What to expect on the day

Your visit begins with a medical consultation, during which your skin is assessed, your medical history is reviewed and the treatment plan is explained. If you are suitable and happy to proceed, photographs are taken so progress can be reviewed later.

A numbing cream is applied and left for a period before treatment to improve comfort. The handpiece is then passed systematically over the area. Most people describe a warm, prickling sensation; comfort levels vary between individuals and your practitioner will check in with you throughout.

The treatment itself typically takes around 30 minutes, depending on the area. Afterwards your skin is cleansed and soothed, and you are given written aftercare to take home.

Downtime and aftercare

It is common for skin to look red and feel warm, similar to sunburn, for a day or two. Some people notice mild swelling and a grid-like pattern of small marks, which usually fade within a few days. Downtime varies with the depth used and your skin.

For the first 24 hours we ask you to keep the skin clean, avoid make-up, heat, saunas and strenuous exercise. Gentle skincare and daily high-factor sun protection are important while your skin recovers. A course of treatments spaced several weeks apart is often recommended, and your practitioner will advise how many sessions may suit you.
